Yas, Yas(Mond), Yas (Se Laagte)

Also see Eiaeas where we showed tentatively on the possibility that Gordon's 'Ezelsfontein' may be the translation of the old name. Now we can fix things. 'Doelsfontein' is not the translation of Eiaeas or Yas. It is an alternative name from Gordon and his said. The meaning as 'front elole' was also given incorrectly indicated by Mossop 1935 and Van Vredes 1958, K Eiaeas. Looking at the topo-cadastral series 1967 Skin 2818 Warmbaths, then it appears that 'Yas in the subdivision of its western half the farms 'Warmbad North' No Gr. 147/1952 and 'Warmbad Zuid' No. 147/1952. At the corresponding topographical map 1973 is at the place where Gordon and Wikar's eiaeas have been, according to Schead CJ 1973 Gazette 253 at K 2823/1940 and 2836/1941 reported a water location indicated in blue with 'Hot Jump'. Now it's linguistically similar to Nama ǀ AIS [ǀ AE-S] = 'Feuer' (Rust 1960 DNW 21), plus A-S = hole, opening, or better, plus ǀǀ A- to wash or bathe. Eiaeas therefore literally means 'Warmbaths' (or hot waterhole). 'Warmbaths', the name of these two adjacent farms on the western side of the current 'Yas, and earlier part of it, translate the old Khoekhoen name' Yas, shortened from Eiaeas, aijaas, but still pronounced twelfetrate, look of the spokesman of surveying. The farms just west of Schuitsdrift received their name of the Warmbath, a name preserved in his Khoekhoen as' Yas, and in his Afrikaans translation as Warmbaths. For the first member, refer to names such as Aiais, Eibees, Aigams, etc.

Eiaas beteken dus letterlik 'Warmbad' (of Vuurwarm watergat).
