Die alternatiewe naam 'Rooifontein' in die Kriegskarte is die direkte vertaalde vorm, soos Nama ǀaba-, ǀawa- = rooi, en -bis, plekduiding by watername, veral oop waters. Die wisseling b- en w- is gewoon. Dit was moontlik om Gordon se opgawe presies te identifiseer.
