Description
eng Nama ǀǀ Gara-S = Kokerboom, Aloe Dichotoma, Nama -Xa (-Cha-) = Empire, and -S which also has locative value = place, thus the 'quiver-agile place'. The change -1- (as at Wikar here) and -R- come often, cf. about. Kalij and Kaluela, resp. for Karee and Kariega (cf. This Slow-Growing Aloe Were Used As Quivers in Which Poison-Tipped Arrows Were Carried '.
5 D 12.) Mossop 1935 in VRV 15 42-3 vertel nog 'The forest of age-old koker trees ia which Wikar hunted may still be seen near Coboopfontein...The hollowed-out branches of this slow-growing aloe were used as quivers in which poison-tipped arrows were carried'.
