Eerw. Weber-hulle is op weg van Warmbad na die sendingpos Blijdever- wacht, en span aan die Hamrivier uit by ǃGaudaus, ’n fontein. Die naam kan beteken die 'Fontein ( -s dui baie kere fonteinname aan) daar waar die poort, of pad (-dao-), hard (ǃgau-, vgl. ook Kr.-R. 1969 NW 129) is', wel met verwysing na die bodemgesteldheid. Die verklaring is n.a.v. een van die moontlikhede wat hom voordoen met inagneming van die gegewe suigkonsonant. Op die beskikbare kaarte kom ons die ou naam nie meer tee nie. Op die Kriegskarte van 1904 kom ook ’n Gaudaus voor, maar die bron le meer ooswaarts, op 2819 BB, aan die grens waar vandag die plaas Border nr 155 le.
