Openvlei is clearly a whole nethmological adaptation to Uubvlei in Afrikaans direction. Uubvlei is indicated on the maps with varying boundaries. It's - a big pan. Many southward within the digging area lies an eponymous plant with O.A. A post office and a station Uubvlei, 22 km northwestern of the campong Oranjemund. The Vlei's name remembers Nama ǀ U- = Brak, Salpetetic, presumably following the taste of the water, or it is equal to Nama ǀ U- = 'Lagune' (Krenz FK 1979 note).
