We understand this: A tributary of the Ham River (according to the map) carries locally the name of Eksteen River, on an old roadboard it is indicated as Gamkum River, the filler of the 1973 form heard Gamkuprivier, it runs through the farm Groendoring , a place entered on S 2819 AB as Tzamab-Grundorn on the map of the Country Meter General 1972. But then the 'relic' Gamkup, -B, nothing but Nama for Groendoring, in German Griindorn, With elements lamb, earlier Ikam, tooǃ Gam = green, and 11khu-b = thorn (Rest 1960 DNW Resp. 28 and 14). All this makes it very likely that the farm name of today has been translated from Khoekhens.

Ons verstaan dit so: ’n sytak van die Hamrivier (volgens die landkaart) dra plaaslik die naam van Eksteenrivier, op ’n ou padbord is dit aangedui as Gamkumrivier, die invuller van die formulier van 1973 hoor Gamkuprivier, dit loop deur die plaas Groendoring, ’n plek wat op S 2819 AB ingeskryf is as Tzamab-Grundorn op die kaart van die land-meter generaal 1972.
