The place name is already behaving in th a ** 508. Telkins the suction consonant is given there as the cerebral and here. The Segsmen today rationalizes the meaning by connecting the name with 'Der MarkKnochen (Lioer Schenkelkno- Chen)', as at Kr.-r. 1969 NW 178 given under the Rine Spelling, viz. Ifǃ Heib. However, we must be open to the possibility that there could also have been a tuber plant, known as theǃ Hai-B, who could have given his name to these places, cf. about this o.a. Haigamas as already mentioned.

Die pleknaam is reeds behan- del in TH A** 508. Telkins word die suigkonsonant daar as die serebrale aangegee, ook hier. Die segsliede van vandag rasionaliseer die betekenis deur die naam te verbind met 'der Markknochen (liingster Schenkelkno- chen)', soos by Kr.-R. 1969 NW 178 aangegee onder die Rynse spelling daarvan, nl. as ǃheib.
