eng The name is old and spelled in different ways (for other variants cf. Slipping 1973 Gazette 62) until it has been normalized as a conciped. In 1947, however, it was captured by the PNC on the recommendation of Dr. Vedder as Goageb for the station, and indirectly for the river. The recommendation rests on Dr Vedder's derivation of the name, as he has made it public in 1928. Fortunately, we have early indication of the slap consonants. According to his system, Knudsen first writes it as ǀǀ Goan- ǀǀ GIB (with the How comma front), and then as ǀǀ Goan- ǀ GIB (here with a point in front and below), in the same year 1842 and in the same System draws it to it as ǀǀ Oankiep. For the first component, Dr. Vedder goes out of the same word as they, viz. of ǀǀ Goa, the flood of water. The second component, differently spelled as -kwip, - clip, -quip, -kaip, -keip, chips ,QIP, -GIP, -GeeP etc. (Not quoting an example of everyoneǃ), and at Knudsen with a lateral but also with a dental battle in front, as at Vedder, give good law for the identification of it with the nama word for 'twins', which also topographically Based. The other statement is to reconcile linguistically difficult. The river name appears on cards, such as those of the Surveyor General 1972, as Concip, on a few other than Konskip; The name of the station, 69 km west of Seeheim, remains GoAGEB, as modernized. In 1947 is dit deur die PNK op aanbeveling van dr Vedder egter vasgelê as Goageb vir die stasie, en onregstreeks ook vir die rivier. Die aanbeveling berus op dr Vedder se afleiding van die naam, soos hy dit reeds in 1928 openbaar gemaak het. Gelukkig het ons vroeë aanduiding van die klapkonsonante. Volgens sy stelsel skryf Knudsen dit eers as ǀǀGoan-ǀǀgib (met die hoe komma vooraan), en dan as ǀǀGoan-ǀgib (hier met ’n punt vooraan en onder), in dieselfde jaar 1842 en in dieselfde stelsel teken Kleinschmidt dit op as ǀǀOankiep. Vir die eerste komponent gaan dr Vedder uit van dieselfde woord as hulle, nl. van ǀǀgoa, die afvloei van water. Die tweede komponent, verskil- lend gespel as -kwaip, -kweip, -quip, -kaip, -keip, -kip, -qiep, -gip, -giep ens. (nie van elkeen ’n voorbeeld aangehaal nieǃ), en by Knudsen met ’n laterale maar ook met ’n dentale slag vooraan, soos by Vedder, gee goeie reg vir die vereenselwiging daarvan met die Namawoord vir 'tweeling', wat ook topografies gegrond is. Die ander verklaring is taalkundig moeilik te versoen. Die riviernaam verskyn op kaarte, soos die van die landmeter-generaal 1972, as Konkiep, op enkele ander as Konkip; die naam van die stasie, 69 km wes van Seeheim, bly Goageb, soos gemoderniseer.
