On topographical series 1974 sheet 2816 Alexander Bay on 2817 AA is entered 'Gaimus', located just north of the hope and south of the point where the Grootfish River in the Orange River inflows, an island in the Orange River. The spelling Gaimus is apparently a modernization. The member's muscle or muster is clear as Nama mu-s = eye, also eye of a fountain, cf. o.a. Keimoes. On the map appears at 'Gaimus' for the island also the Afrikaans name 'Stuigeoog'. What the member wants to say exactly, for us, is not clear to us, but the member '-ogue' to the Namalid 'mus' (ie mu-s = eye) makes it about that stake the translation of The old inland name is. The T- is indicative of a suction consonant before the Caia, but we do not know which Schnalz is.

Die spelling Gaimus is blykbaar ’n modernisering. Die lid -moes of -mus is duidelik soos Nama mu-s = oog, ook oog van ’n fontein, vgl. o.a. KEIMOES. Op die kaart verskyn by 'Gaimus' vir die eiland ook die Afrikaanse naam 'Stuiweoog'. Wat die lid 'stuiwe-' presies wil se, is vir ons nie heel duidelik nie, maar die lid '-oog' teenoor die Namalid '-mus' (d.i. mu-s = oog) maak dit ongeveer seker dat Stuiweoog die vertaling van die ou inlandse naam is. Die T- is aanduiding van ’n suigkonsonant voor die caia, maar ons weet nie watter schnalz dit is nie.
