On the Topo Cadastral Series 1966 Skin 2816 Alexander Bay appears the river as 'Blok River', on the topographical corresponding map 1974 is called the area 'Blokwerk' and the river entering south to north the Orange River just south of Sandberg, is called ' Bloksterp River '. The place lies on the Cape side of the elbow of the Orange River before its mouth in the ocean, where the elbow makes its nurious bend. The census card's 'blak bead' is definite error for 'block bead'. The member tc.laump is the clumsy attempt to give the troublesome word in Khoekhens for 'kraal', actually for 'site', viz. 11gaus. The TC.L sets the lateral ǀǀ and the g- before, the -m-in Aump is actually the -n- that was partially assimilated to the -p (such as Elle-N-arch eg. before the -b- el-mow becomes), The -n- itself is in turn secondary for nationality of the vowel in ǀǀ Gau. d.w.s. The ǀǀ Gau- was realized from ǀǀ Gau-N, and before the lock -p (for the ml. Ekv.) ǀǀ Gaump. Nama 11gau- = site (Rust 1960 DNW 73), still preserved in the current translated Afrikaans names for the places. The member Naau- is a good representation of Nama Inao- = 'Klotz' (Rust 35), ie Block.
