It seems as if the Khoekhoense name of one pan in translated form could have been transferred to the other pan. The spelling 'Sapan' on the corresponding Topo Cadastral Card 1962 is perhaps printing error, otherwise it is a vokaalharmonic pronunciation variant. The name of the farm on which supan lies, viz. Come, perhaps relate to the hybrid name supan, viz. If the first 'comes' container ',' pot ',' bowl ', etc. And the second 'comes' pan 'means.

Supan' is op die plaas 'Kom Kom' nr B. 742/1921, dist. Gordonia. Af- gaande op die klank kan die lid Su- van die naam Supan verbindbaar wees met Nama su- = 'pot', 'Topf' (Rust 1960 DNW 61). Vir hierdie verklaring is daar ook topografiese steun. Noordnoordoos van Supan, maar nou op 2720 DB, is 'Pot se Pan'. Dit lyk dan asof die Khoekhoense naam van die een pan in vertaalde vorm op die ander pan oorgedra kon gewees het. Die spelling 'Sapan' op die ooreenstemmende Topo-kadastrale kaart 1962 is miskien drukfout, anders is dit n vokaalharmoniese uitspraakvariant. Die naam van die plaas waarop Supan le, nl. Kom Kom, hou dalk ook verband met die hibridiese naam Supan, nl. indien die eerste 'Kom' 'houer', 'pot', 'bak', ens. en die tweede 'Kom' 'pan' beteken.
