Tobos

Again we have a case where the original name first (as Tobos) and then double (Tobos / Gansvlei) occurred to become alone (Gansvlei), but now in the non-Khoekhoen. The old name had against 1900 competition. On Veillet's card it just occurs as 'Cans Vlei'. On the DSWA series of 1911 Blatt 29 Warmbaths also unanimously, but in the misery of 'Gamsvley'. Today it is subdivided as 'Gansvley-Nord No 287' and 'Gansvley-Süd No. 288'. With marshes Series 1974 Skin 2718 GRIAUU. The question that remains is it: Is 'Gansvley' an alternative name at Tobos, or is it, as we believe, its translation? In about all cases of a temporary doubles of a place it appeared that the younger name (in Afrikaans, German or English) was translated from the older name. ie the older name continues in its translation. Unfortunately we do not know the naman for the 'goose', knowing the intended Wild waterfall, from our material. If Tobo- the old name is for this kind of 'goose', then the place name Bowen serves another word of us. The Element -Vley is not directly preserved in Tobos. But it comes indirectly from the VR. EKV. -S that can also determine vlinamia.

The old name had against 1900 competition. On Veillet's card it just occurs as 'Cans Vlei'.
