Gabasis(-Ost), Gabasis(-West)

This area between the Klein-Karas Mountains and the Fish River is rich in the Igaba, or alternating -b andw- (cf. th a * 43 under 5 b 1),ǃ Gawa Forest, The 'Black Dorn' or Catophractes Alexandri (Smith 1966 CNSAP 605). The Old and Great Farm Gawachab No 114 means 'Rich in the Igawabos'. It is located south of Seehea at the main rail, with the eponymous station on it. And at subdivision adjacent eastern Gawachab is the farms Gabasis-West No 112 and -ost No. 116. This Gaba is exchange ruling of Igawa, the -Si- is locative morpheme, the -s (Fern, singing.) Indicate more definitely here The place where water is (source, fountain, wells), or a site or settlement. A run east of Bethanien also has. The name of Gawakam, the ǀǀ Gam- (= water / run) where there are Igababosse. Cfg. further Gawachab in th a * 398. and Gavaams in this part.

eng Arndt H 1977 And three other Khoekhoen of Koes Conversion 'I [Arndt] know those two places, Gabasis-Ost and Gabasis West. They were named after such a forest, the Igababos. That place is now called so for the sake of Gawa Chab. Gawachab has many of those bushes '. Apriels K 1977 Former teacher and four other Khoekhoen of Aoab 'Gabasis-Ost, he gets his name from that forest, that thorn bush, a pale forest with the white flowers, the igabbabos. I don't know what his other name is '
