The name is of course very often recorded. In 1866 it was determined by the Rhenish Missionary Society to Keetmanshoop, the name of a mission friend and benefactor, the Praeses of the Society in Barmen, viz. From Koetman J Keetmann, to keep green. The derivation of the in-born name was sufficient by Schultime and Vedder. The story of the dog (s) and the hunter (s) have many variations and decorations, and without it other places also received the same name according to the environmental nature. See the remark of Bam. Keetmanshoop is a thriving town today, the center of the karakul farming

Die ou Namanaam is vroeg (bv. reeds in 1791) en verskillend vertaal, bv. as Modderfontein, Swartmodder, Swartmoeras, seifs Swartklei. Van almal is nie bewyse gegee nie. Die naam is natuurlik besonder dikwels opgeteken. In 1866 is dit deur die Rynse Sendinggenootskap verdoop tot Keetmanshoop, om die naam van ’n sendingvriend en weldoener, die praeses van die Genootskap in Barmen, nl. van koopman J Keetmann, groen te hou. Die afleiding van die in- boorlingnaam is deur Schultze en Vedder voldoende gegee. Die verhaaltjie van die hond(e) en die jagter(s) het baie variasies en versierings, en daarsonder het ook ander plekke dieselfde naam ontvang volgens die omgewingsaard. Sien die opmerking van Bam.
