afr Ons het met opset heelwat dokumentasies gegee van hierdie belangrike ou uitspanning langs die pad van die 'Baai' (luderitzbaai hier). In die jongste tyd het die gedagte posgevat dat dit 'Slang(fontein)' sou beteken, by Nama ǀao-b, met die fern, -s as lokatief van ’n bronnaam. Die ou optekeninge met hulle voorkeur vir ǀoa-, ǀou-, en die uitdruklike mededelings van bv. sendeling J. Bam jnr. maak dit o.i. heeltemal seker dat ons in die naam die Namawoord ǀou-, ǀau- = fontein moet sien (uitgespreek met hoogstygende toon), '’n Kleurling-Nama, David Roman, meen dat die oorsprong ǀaub = fontein is — ter stawing hiervan haal hy nog name van ou fonteine in die buurt aan', Aantekening hierby van Haacke WHG 1976 Assistent-Onderwysbeplanner. Aus die koudste dorpie in Suidwes-Afrika, le hoog in die berge aan die kant van die Namibwoestyn, 139 km ten ooste van liideritzbucht.
