Bam jnr. maak dit o.i. heeltemal seker dat ons in die naam die Namawoord ǀou-, ǀau- = fontein moet sien (uitgespreek met hoogstygende toon), '’n Kleurling-Nama, David Roman, meen dat die oorsprong ǀaub = fontein is — ter stawing hiervan haal hy nog name van ou fonteine in die buurt aan', Aantekening hierby van Haacke WHG 1976 Assistent-Onderwysbeplanner. Aus die koudste dorpie in Suidwes-Afrika, le hoog in die berge aan die kant van die Namibwoestyn, 139 km ten ooste van liideritzbucht.
