Description
eng From Xanu = through, andǃ Soon [ǃ Gau] = transversely through, across from - The member xanu- is rewritten to Chanu- according to the rules for the spelling of place names as applied by the pnk. Besides the native name, the bay carried other names, eg. Angra Dos Ilheos ('Islands Bay'), Angra Das Voltas ('Bay with turns') and Angra Pequena ('Kleinbaai'), all given by the Portugesay; The current name was given by the Germans in honor of its founder. The namanaam is, allegedly, known, viz. 'Cross-country opposite'.
'Kruisplek oorkanttoe'.
