Wasser is the name of a railway station and lying on the northern bank of Rotal River (Map 1968 of SWA Skin 2618 Keetmanshoop), now within the Deservate. Pastor Rust's recording of the old inland name is the only one we have. The ground word is ǀ U = Saltish, Brak, which strikes on the water, so that the current German Station name washer is at least indirectly a translation or his connection to the Khoekhoense name, of which the -close is local, the Fern. Sing, -S possibly also here as a source of government.

Wasser is die naam van ’n spoorwegstasie en le aan die noordelike oewer van Wortelrivier (kaart 1968 van SWA vel 2618 Keetmanshoop), nou binne die Tsesreservaat. Pastor Rust se optekening van die ou inlandse naam is die enigste wat ons het. Die grondwoord is wei ǀu = soutagtig, brak, wat op die water slaan, sodat die huidige Duitse stasienaam Wasser minstens onregstreeks 'n vertaling is of sy aansluiting by die Khoekhoense naam het, waarvan die -ses lokativerend is, die fern. sing, -s moontlik ook hier as genusteken van die bron aldaar.
