Aub(Berg)

It is north of Bethanien and west of Beerseba, in the Hanami plateau, just east of the Ganachab, so far from the Aub or Grootfish River to be relating to it without any more. The -tanab of Hahn (and of Van Vice, not quoted) is like Nama -tana- (now -dana) = head, head (Rest 1960 DNW 29). It is the same place as snake head, in Nama literally ǀ AUB-Dana-B, whose Afrikaans name is the translation, ǀ Ao- (with increasing tone) = snake (Kreenley 1889 Worschatz 183), and Tana-B = head, also geographical. The full name appears on cards and shortens in writings as AUB, and from early on, cf. Kreft. Also read Sonoab.
