ǂKharis

Our three entries in th a ** 661-2 apply one and the same place. On our older cards, k (h) aris, still waterfall / Wasserfall, and we could only approach the place and situated as a result. Dr Budack's communication enables us to locate it exactly. In addition, we find on SWA series 1968 sheet 2518 in this place the entry 'waterfall', a name translating and replaces the old Khoekhoense name, although the translation associative, such as Dr. Budack as a possibility, presents n.a.v. returns at Kreenley 1889 Wortschatz. We consider it more likely that 'waterfall' is lived in Nama Tkharis, as given by Rest 1960 DNW 72, 'Wasserfall: + Karis'. The translation is then made directly.

eng Budack KFR 1979 Letter 'Karis: A1 Three relates to T Kharis waterfall, a place in the Fish River with a waterfall located approximately 12 km west of the tar road at Tses. The term is likely to be related to ╪khari = Ausgleiten, Ausglitschen (Angles Stellen), see Kreenley 1889: 202. There are many smooth stones in the vicinity of the waterfall and one slipping easily, especially if they are wet
