Girichas often occurs, it was an outdoor station of the Gibeon mission. The old name made room for his translation. Jakalsfontein is now farm No. 94, Dist. Mariental, to the head (tar road) and south of Mariental. The railroad runs over the farm stretching over the Grootfish River. Like Nama ǀ giri- = fox, -exa- = many, and the -s indicate the fountain recorded in the translation. So: 'The fakurs-rich bronze area'.

Girichas kom dikwels voor, dit was ’n buitestasie van die Gibeonse sending. Die ou naam het plek gemaak vir sy vertaling. Jakalsfontein is nou plaas nr 94, dist. Mariental, aan die hoofwe’g (teerpad) en le suid van Mariental. Die spoorweg loop oor die plaas wat oor die Grootvisrivier strek. Soos Nama ǀgiri- = jakkals, -xa- = baie, en die -s dui die fontein aan wat in die vertaling opgeneem is. Dus: 'Die Jakkalsryke bronplek'.
