It means 'backfontein', such as Namaǃ Ga- = back (Rest 1960 DNW 31), Incorporatedǃ Gab-EI = behind, and ǀ Au-S = fountain, stirring water; Behindfontein is in contrast to other fountain (s) that was more emerging, 'front-fountain (s)'. The nasaling of the vowel - inǃ Ga- is consonantically realized as -an- in gan- (aus). The entry on the cricke is actually applies to a place of the same name on S 2517, but it only lives in its translated form. Cfg. Gaaus.

Dit beteken 'Agterfontein', soos Nama ǃga- = rug (Rust 1960 DNW 31), ingelyf in ǃgab-ei = agter, en ǀau-s = fontein, opwellende water; Agterfontein is in teenstelling met ander fontein(e) wat meer na vore geiee was, 'Voor- fontein(e)'. Die nasalering van die klinker -a- in ǃga- is konsonanties ge- realiseer as -an- in Gan-(aus). Die inskrywing op die Kriegskarte geld eintlik vir ’n plek van dieselfde naam op S 2517, maar daar leef dit net in sy vertaalde vorm voort. Vgl. GAAUS.
