At Sprigade Misel 1904 Krieghorn appears as 'Breckhorn', sometimes as 'Brakhorn', eg on DSWA series 1910 Blatt 20 Malta- hohhe, but on the younger cards we read for farm no 38 east of Malta- hohe And in that district 'Breckhorn'. The member is not 'BRE (C) K-', such as the member '-horn', in High German. Probably it is a German adaptation of the Afrikaans name of the Namas speakers, viz. of 'breaking'. This gives Dr Hahn the Khoekhow name. From this we must conclude that it is the oldest name, and also that the Afrikaans form in Hahn's time was still unknown or very little The old name then displaces, although he has been diluted to some height unknown. The slight mistakes of Hahn still do not make the citation difficult.

Die lid 'Bre(c)k-' is nie, soos die lid '-horn', in Hoogduits nie. Waarskynlik is dit 'n Duitse aanpassing van die Afrikaanse naam van die Namasprekers, nl. van 'Breekhoring'. Hier- van gee dr Hahn die Khoekhoense naam. Daaruit moet ons wel aflei dat dit die oudste naam is, en ook dat die Afrikaanse vorm in Hahn se tyd nog onbekend was of baie min gehoor was. Die Afrikaanse vorm het die ou naam dan verdring, hoewel hy tot op sekere hoogte in sy spelling verduits is. Nama khoa = 'zerbrechen', en 11na-b = 'Horn' (Rust 1960 DNW 12 en 32 resp.) Die naamgewende insident is vandag vir ons onbekend. Die effense miswysings van Hahn maak die situering nogtans nie moeilik nie.
