Ons sou vermoed het dat die naam ouer was as die 'last tribal war' soos deur die PNK-SWA genoem. Hierdie soort naamgewing val ook selde binne die toponimiese patroon van die Khoekhoen. Op topografiese gronde doen ’n ander moontlikheid horn voor. Op die Topografiese reeks 1971 vel 2516 Gibeon merk ons dat die plase 'Nubib' nr 42 en 'Nubib West' nr 109 aanmekaar grens. Aan die noorwestekant word Nubib West begrens deur 'Verweg' nr 126. 'Weit (entfernt)' is in Nama ǃnu- (Rust 1960 DNW 72) wat taalkundig goed met die lid Nu- van Nubib ooreenstem. Die tweede lid van die naam, bi- b, is ’n lokatiefmor- feem, die slot -b masc. sing, spesifiek vir die berg wat hier primer sal wees. Op topografiese en taalkundige gronde lyk dit dan asof 'Verweg' die ver- taling van 'Nubib' kan wees. Op die Topografiese reeks 1973 vel 2416 Mariental merk ons verder dat die 'Nubibberge' van die plaas 'Verweg' af noordwaarts strek.
