In feite het natuurlik niks verdwyn nie, die stemhebbende glottale h- is vervang deur die stemlose glottale slag wat ons nie in ons spelling voorstel nie. Daar is ook ’n ander siening, nl. dat die stamp in verband met die 'rietdans' staan, d.w.s. die eerste lid is te begryp as ╪ās = rietdans, sodat die naam beteken die 'Plek/fontein ( -s) waar die rietdans (╪ās) gestamp (╪(h)am) word'. Die Kriegskarte gee *n alternatiewe naam op, nl. 'Wolftreifn.', wel te lees as 'Wolfrietfn.', met ’n omsetting van die letters vir die 'riet' van die naam.
