The place names indicated by Gebis, Gaibis, Kaibes and variants often appear, o.m. with meanings such as 'Murgfontein' and 'Dark Water / Troebelfontein', cf. Th a * 340-342. In this case, we have country-martial facts. The Krikriekarte 1904 gives Gebic to 2418 AC, south of Hoachanas, as node in the motten roads, and with Wishaalname Kalkfontein. Geibis disappeared on the 1911 map, but in his place was the old alternative Afrikaans name of Kalkfontein. And on the 1968 card standing at the same point, also compared to other given points such as 'Stamrietfontein', now 'stampriet', the name 'Kouwater' No. 209. 'Cold' is in Namaǃ Kei (Rhenish Spell, cf. Rust 1960 DNW 34 nowǃ Khae = 'kalt') oi undoubted same word as the goat of Geibis with the -B as lokatiefmorfeem, and -s of the fern. sing here more bepaaldelik indication of a source name . Geibis is translated with 'source / fountain (-s) on the spot (-bi) where the water is cold (Ikhae)'. In other words, the old namanaam has disappeared, long ago, but he still lives in his translated form of 'cold water' for at least part of the larger region covered by Gebis as a name. The boundaries of Gebis were earlier much extended as the borders of the current cold water. The old region was repeatedly subdivided can conclude the s undisputed.

'Koud' is in Nama ǃkei (Rynse spelling, vgl. Rust 1960 DNW 34, nou ǃkhae = 'kalt') o.i. ontwyfelbaar dieselfde woord as die Gei- van Geibis, met die -bi- as lokatiefmorfeem, en die -s van die fern. sing, hier meer bepaaldelik aanduiding van 'n bronnaam. Geibis is te vertaal met 'Bron/fontein ( -s) op die plek (-bi-) waar die water koud (Ikhae) is'. Anders gestel, die ou Namanaam het verdwyn, al lankal, maar hy leef nog voort in sy vertaalde vorm van 'Kouwater' vir minstens 'n deel van die groter streek wat deur Geibis as naam gedek was. Die grense van Geibis was vroeër veel uitgestrekter as die grense van die huidige Kouwater. Die ou streek was herhaaldelik onderverdeel. soos ons van die kaarte kan aflei. Die verband tussen Geibis wat as naam ondergegaan het, en Kouwater wat as plaasnaam nog bestaan, is taalkundig en geografies onbetwisbaar.
