We did not meet this name elsewhere. The generic term 'river' is surely to mention exaggerated. The run moves from west to east. It starts on the farm blackkobus and just below the Swartkobus River. The connection with the component 'kobus' in the name of the farm and the other river on it is undisputable. Then this kobus- to explain like the other two names with ingredient - kobus, and like the nearby 'Witkobus', cf. Blackkobus. This Kobus is like Namaǃ Khubi-S = Vlei, Pan, D.W.S. Kobus River is understanding as 'Wlei River'. It should not be confused with eg. Cobas not.

Ons het hierdie naam nie elders teegekom nie. Die generiese term 'rivier' is sekerlik oordrewe te noem. Die lopie beweeg van wes na oos. Dit begin op die plaas Swartkobus en le net onderkant die Swartkobusrivier. Die verband met die komponent '-kobus' in die naam van die plaas en die ander riviertjie daarop is onontwykbaar. Dan is ook hierdie Kobus- te verklaar soos die ander twee name met bestanddeel -kobus, en soos die naby- geleë 'Witkobus', vgl. SWARTKOBUS. Hierdie Kobus is soos Nama ǃkhubi-s = vlei, pan, d.w.s. Kobusrivier is te verstaan as 'Vleirivier'. Dit moet nie verwar word met bv. KOBAS nie.
