Die plaas Nunib nr 127 le naby Stampriet, noordoostelik daarvan. Die gegewe verklarings loop uiteen. Ons meen dat enige verklaring wat nie ge- baseer is op n uitspraak met ’n serebrale tongslag vooraan nie, d.w.s. van die uitspraak van pastor Judt, verwerp moet word. So ’n verklaring het ons nog nie. Die wisseling by mnr HS Isaack en sy span van n- en h- is interes- sant, ook by mnr RA du Raan 1978 Dorpsingenieur wat ons nie aangehaal het nie (hy dink aan ǃhuni = geel). Hierdie feit sowel as die feit dat Nunib na aan Stampriet le, laat die vraag opkom of ons in ǃnuni- nie die Namawoord ǃhu = 'stampfen' (Kr.-R. 1969 NW 202) moet vermoed nie. Vol- gens dr Th Hahn 1901 Collectanea is die vorm ǃhu 'n latere ontwikkeling uit ǃhuni. Nunib is dan die 'Stampplek', ook 'Dansplek'.
