Ganasgous

The place is stated as a tension and water to the Nossob, located north of Howosgaim, roughly about where the farm Hughes No 7 today. The name itself has disappeared. The first element offers no problem. It's Nama for the camel thorn tree, the Acacia Giraffe, but the second element delivers trouble. The sucker is clearly stated, not only here, but also in the names of the environment where it nominates nearby places. An example is Hoagosgaim. The -Gos, we are spelled by our Dr. Hahn ǀǀ Gous, later it became -gos, Seifs gas (cf. Hougaisis). In the map of the DSWA series 1911 there is close to another 'Garossgaus'. Only this member ǀǀ Gous is still unexplained. We start thinking about Nama J ǀ Soon-S [11gau-S] = site, this name then applied the 'fountain, water location (-) at the yard (ǀǀ Gau-) there at the camel thorn trees (ǀǀ Gana- ) '. For the time being then.

Die eerste element bied geen probleem nie. dit is Nama vir die kameeldoringboom, die Acacia giraffae, maar die tweede element lewer moeilikheid op. Die suigkonso- nant word duidelik aangegee, nie net hier nie, maar ook in die name van die omgewing waar dit nabygeleë plekke benoem. 'n Voorbeeld is Hoagosgeis. Die -gos- word daar deur ons dr Hahn gespel ǀǀgous, later het dit -gos- geword, seifs -gas- (vgl. HOUGASGEIS). In die kaart van die DSWA-reeks 1911 is daar naby nog 'n 'Garossgaus'. Alleen hierdie lid ǀǀgous is nog onverklaar. Ons begin dink aan Nama Jǀgou-s [11gau-s] = werf, op hierdie naam toegepas dan die 'Fontein, waterplek ( -s) by die werf (ǀǀgau-) daar by die kameeldoringbome (ǀǀGana-)'. Voorlopig dan.
