Ikam, Ikx'am etc. (Hott 290) = 'Green', Plus 11Khu- = 'thorn' (Rest 14). We believe there is also topographical support for this statement. Kamkoes are bordered on the east for its full length by Kammam No. 369 which we declared in th a ** 627-628 as ' Green To its southwestern point borders on 'Groendorn' No. 362. The names Kamkoes, Kammer, Gamgam, Growing Cross and Groendorn then form a toponic core group; The first member of the Khoekhoense names, viz. Cam- or Gam, is then translated as 'green' in European names, and 'Kamkoes' is transferred in translated form as 'Groendorn' on the farm No. 362. The lock-ons of kamkoes are the locative formans Fern, singing., Simply at (rounder) water spots.

Afgaande bloot op die klank sou ons die naam Kamkoes wou verklaar as 'Groendoring', soos Nama lam- (Rust 1960 DNW 28), Ou-Kaaps learn. Ikam, Ikx'am ens. (HOTT 290) = 'groen', plus 11khu- = 'doring' (Rust 14). Ons meen daar is ook topografiese steun vir hierdie verklaring. Kamkoes word aan die oostekant vir sy voile lengte begrens deur KAMKAM nr 369 wat ons in TH A** 627-628 verklaar het as 'Groenrivier'. Oor Kamkoes en Kamkam vloei die GAMGAM(RIVIER) wat ons in TH A* 353 verklaar het as 'Groenrivier'. Suid van Kamkoes en Kamkam, slegs geskei deur ’n smal strook van Karikomasis, is 'Groendraai' nr 367 wat aan sy suidwestelike punt grens aan 'Groendorn' nr 362. Die name Kamkoes, Kamkam, Gamgam, Groendraai en Groendorn vorm dan 'n toponi- miese kerngroep; die eerste lid van die Khoekhoense name, nl. Kam- of Gam-, word dan as 'Groen-' vertaal in die Europese name, en 'Kamkoes' is in vertaalde vorm as 'Groendorn' op die plaas nr 362 oorgedra. Die slot -s van Kamkoes is die lokatiefformans fern, sing., gewoon by (ron- derige) waterplekke.
