Vandag ken Nama vir 'lepel' ǀǀgoa-b (Rust 1960 DNW 40), maar in Ou-Kaaps is reeds die woord nasse hiervoor gedokumenteer (HOTT 371), wat goed aansluit by die plaasnaam. Opmeting gee op die graadvierkant 2316 B ook aan 'n berg 'Naosfelsen', wat blykbaar op die plaas Naos le en dus dieselfde betekenis vir die Namagedeelte van die naam sal he. Ons meld nog dat pastor DH Diehl snr en mnr S lambert, albei nie aangehaal nie, die naam ook met die ǃ vooraan uitspreek, nl. as ǃNaos. Indien die naam werklik verband hou met 'lepel', is lepel dan etimologies te verstaan as die eetgerei waarop mens kos 'oplaai' (Nama ǃnao = oplaai, oppak)? Ons vra ons af of Naos, indien dit gehoor is as INaos, nie die beste te vertaal is nie as die 'Plek/fontein (-s) waar daar ’n boomstomp (Inao-) staan'.
