We believe Alexander's translation is 'almost right', that it is better declared with 'the mountains of desolation' or '... loneliness'. The T-, as we see it, the old suction consonant who sometimes merges with the next vowel in the spelling of the whites, such as. with Tauseb e.d. The name is then to be binded withǃ U- As inǃ U-Eisa = Lonely (Rest 1960 DNW 16), or The exit-ma-S is here again, as in Kakamas, etc., a petrified location form.

Dit le in die huidige 'Namib Desert Park' (landmeter-generaal 1972 kaart). Ons meen dat Alexander se vertaling 'byna reg' is, dat dit beter te verklaar is met 'Die Berge van Verlatenheid' of '...Eensaamheid'. Die T- is, soos ons dit sien, die ou suigkonsonant wat soms saamsmelt met die volgende klinker in die spelling van die Blankes, soos bv. met Tauseb e.d. Die naam is dan te ver- bind met ǃu- soos in ǃu-eisa = eensaam (Rust 1960 DNW 16), of by ǃu = slap wees, verwelk, kragteloos (Kr.-R. 1969 NW 371). Die uitgang -ma-s is hier weer, soos by KAKAMAS ens., ’n versteende lokatiefformans.
