There seems to be a topographical and semantic connection between Goabibgous and Black Modder River. Mud is in Nama ╪goa (Rust 1960 DNW 53) that matches the first member of the name Goabib. The second member, -bi, is a locative morpheme, lock -b masc. Sing, is living to indicate rivers. The member -Gous of the name may then be like Namaǃ Gaos = walk-in, cf. e.g. Tsubgaos in th a ** 1062.

afr Goabibgous' is plaas nr 328, suidwes van Rehoboth geleë. Daaroor loop van wes na oos die nie-standhoudende 'Swartmodderriver' wat suidoos van Rehoboth by die Oanob aansluit. Dit lyk asof daar ’n topografiese en semantiese verband kan wees tussen Goabibgous en Swartmodderrivier. Modder is in Nama ╪goa- (Rust 1960 DNW 53) wat goed met die eerste lid van die naam Goabib ooreenstem. Die tweede lid, -bi-, is ’n lokatief- morfeem, die slot -b masc. sing, is gewoon om riviere aan te dui. Die lid -gous van die naam is dan miskien soos Nama ǃgaos = inloop, vgl. bv. TSUBGAOS in TH A** 1062.
