Xamaǁgoes

This name does not occur on later maps that is accessible to us. As far as we can determine, it had to lay on the current farm Kwakwas No. 251. Dr Hahn gives it as a pilot at a fountain; The road is still over there (cf. SWA series 1974 sheet 2316 Rehoboth), from Rehoboth in northwest direction. The X sound as at Hahn is translated for place names as on the Krikriekarte with Ch-. The 11Goe- = 'liegen' (Rust 1960 DNW 39), substantiated as 'place' (cf. Krenz), but we doubt whether the first component here reflects the concept 'lion' in Nama Xam-MI (Rest 40). Hahn does not write 'xam-i', he writes 'xam-a'. Kreenley 1889 Worschatz 45 has only one entry under Xama- = 'The GIITE, FLICHKEIT'. Then it looks like, with this data before us, the source name might rather mean 'good location' or 'welgely'

Hahn skryf nie 'xam-i' nie, hy skryf 'xam-a'.
