Amichab(Berg),-(Pan)
Descending simply on the sound we would tend to connect the names with Nama ǀ Ami- = 'ostrich' (Rust 1960 DNW 59) and -exa, the multilingual murphere. The lock-B of Amixab- is the locative morphem masc. sing., simply by names of rivers and mountains. Judged by the morpheme seems as if the mountain name was primer. However, another connection is possible. About 60 km northeast of Amixabberg is 'Vogelferberg'. 'Feder' is in Namaǃ Ami (Rust 20) who matches linguistically well with the member Ami of the Place Name Amichab. If the distance in this desert east of Walvis Bay is not too big, we may have again a case where a Khoekhoen name is transferred in translated form to another location. The present places are north of the highway between Windhoek and Walvis Bay. 'Felt Mountain'. Mr FK Krenz 1979 farms the adventive, tends to the statement we have given as the first, viz. ǀ Ami = ostrich, and ^ Gab = 'fläche', or t = gab = 'edge', d.w.s. 'Ostrich Plain / Rand', but, as motivated, we consider 'Feeling Mountain' as a great possibility.
