afr Oorspronklik was Kaukurus 'n bron aan die Wit-Nossob. suidwestelik van Gobabis. Hierdie goeie waterplek was ook n kruispunt van paaie, op ’n tyd ’n sendingpos, toe die kern van ’n Farmgesêllschaft. Op die SWA- reeks 1966 ruitsone 34K word dit aangegee as ’n plaaskompleks nr 79 met verskeie onderdele en derivate (bv. 'Kaukurus-Ost'). Pastor Diehl gee ’n moontlike verklaring wat waarskynlik lyk, afgaande op die klankkompleks, maar mnr Hanse en sy span ken die groot plaas waar op ’n tyd met bees geboer en kaas gemaak is. Die grondgedagte word uitgedruk deur Nama xau- = 'sein Bediirfnis verrichten. scheissen' (Kr.-R. 1969 NW 48, s.v. Rynse spelling xou-), denkbaar van diere wat daar kom drink het. Mnr Krenz FK 1979 Boer Aantekening se die naam laat horn eerder dink aan 'ǀkau = Wildebeest (Gnu), Ikurus = leckstelle, Brakplek' (Rust I960 DNW 28 spel die Namawoord vir 'Gnu' as gaob, d.w.s. sonder klap voor- aan). Miskien moet ons ons laat lei deur die plaaslike mense wat self Namasprekend is. Die naam kom nie by Hahn 1879 kaart voor nie, maar is wel oud.
