In th a * 159, we expressed the opinion that the ground word of the name Abbabis such as Nama ǀ Aba, ǀ Awa = 'Red'. Now we also find topographical support for the statement. On or just across the northwestern boundary of the farm Abbabis is 'Rooiberg'. The farm 'Navachab' bound Abbabis to the north and northwest, and on its eastern point is still 'a' Red , Rooiberg and (a second) Rooiberg exists, and where the Afrikaans name has semantically a connection with the Khoekhoense name, possibly a (partial) translation thereof. The second component of Abbabis, viz. -BI-S is, as in th a * Alw. indicated, a place-nourished morpheme. Cfg. also + Navachab

In TH A* 159 het ons die mening uitgespreek dat die grondwoord van die naam Abbabis soos Nama ǀaba, ǀawa = 'rooi' is. Nou vind ons ook topografiese steun vir die verklaring. Op of net oorkant die noordwestelike grens van die plaas Abbabis is 'Rooiberg'. Die plaas 'Navachab' begrens Abbabis aan die noorde en noordweste, en op sy oostelike punt is nog 'n 'Rooiberg'. Dit lyk dan asof ons hier met 'n naamkerngroep of 'cluster' te make het wat uit die name Abbabis, Navachab, Rooiberg en (’n tweede) Rooiberg bestaan, en waar die Afrikaanse naam semanties ’n verband met die Khoekhoense naam het, moontlik ’n (gedeeltelike) vertaling daarvan is.
