Zaby A 1979 Rector Namibiana 1 (1) 54 'Ugab, Ugab. The big river north of the Brandberg, actually:ǃ U- + gave. Most surveyed people did not know the meaning of this name. Two explanations I could get: 1. As The river dropped, people still wanted to go over. They went (╪ga = go in) to the knee in the water (ǃ UB = lower leg). 2. The water mountains on the river are so steep that you can only crawl on Alien Fours (ǃ UB, on the lower legs) in the valley Hi-Nokam (+ GA) '.

Zaby A 1979 Rektor Namibiana 1(1) 54 'UGAB, UGAB. Der grosse Fluss nördlich des Brandberges, eigentlich: ǃU- + gab. Die meisten befragten leute kannten die Bedeutung dieses Namens nicht. Zwei Erklarungen konnte ich bekommen: 1. Als der Fluss abkam, wollten leute noch hin- iiber. Sie gingen (╪ga = hineingehen) bis zum Knie im Wasser (ǃub = Unterschenkel). 2. Die Uferberge am Fluss sind so steil, dass man nur auf alien Vieren kriechend (ǃub, auf den Unterschenkeln) in das Tal hi- neinkam ( + ga)'.
