Gamkarab

It must be with what is in th a * 357-8 over the farm Gamkarab No. 176 which is out of Outjo's traffic Road to Otavi. We believe Mr Alberts looked at least in terms of the first component. According to his description, the member hits Gam - not on ǀǀ gammi = water, but onǃ Gam = 'tief' (Rest 1960 DNW 61). The member-cara then, so we think, to explain as was done by Mr Boois at that time in th a * 358, viz. as 'slot', or, in the description of Kr.-r. 1969 NW 14 'ǀ Ara-: Riss Im Fels (DURCH WASER ENTRAND)'. The current ǀ ARA- is the undeft- velarized and younger verdict of ǀ Kara -, cf. slot / tear '. The 'deep' forms a contrast to the other crevices of which many were, cf. + Karachas. Krenz FK 1979 farmer has a brief note that places the accents again. He says: 'ǀ ǀ Gam- ǀ JKarab, ǀǀ Gam = Wasser, 11karab = Vil, Gamkarab = Der Unterirdic Sea '.

eng Alberts PPH 1977 Boer Conversation 'Gamkarab actually means' deep happiness '. Gamkarab is the cave under where the water runs. Now you have to climb, an eighteen foot or so. Then you come on a rock like a table, then you stand and look at the water below. Gamkarab, it's just like the Bushmen called Horn. That water is very deep '.
Nou moet jy afklim, 'n agtien voet of so. Daardie water is baie diep'.

5 C 1 in TH A* 44. Hy se: 'ǀ ǀGam-ǀ jkarab, ǀǀgam = Wasser, 11karab = viel, Gamkarab = der unterirdische See'.
