The farm only had a Khoekhozen name, but by 1910 the current long name emerged and the old inland name had over time, yet the old name (apparently the return at Mr Haacke) remains in circulation. Locking part of the name (-nis, currently (╪) Nais in our return) is 'the TurtelTaube' (Kr.- R. 1969 NW 289). Our spokesman binds the first member with the meaning of 'raw' , and possibly nav Nama ǀ Khora (Rust 1960 DNW 49) S.V. 'Rauh', or 'ORA: (a) Raw: (b) Undressed, rough from nature' (adding Mr Haacke). For us, there seems to be missing another link.

Die plaas het net ’n Khoekhoense naam gehad, maar teen 1910 het die huidige lang naam opgekom en het die ou inlandse naam met verloop van tyd verdring, tog bly die ou naam (blykens die opgawe by mnr Haacke) nog in omloop. Die slotdeel van die naam (-neis, tans (╪)nais in ons opgawe), is 'die Turteltaube' (Kr.-R. 1969 NW 289). Ons segsman ver- bind die eerste lid met die betekenis van 'rou', en moontlik n.a.v. Nama ǀkhora (Rust 1960 DNW 49) s.v. 'rauh', of 'ora: (a) rou: (b) onbeskaaf, rof van geaardheid' (byvoeging van mnr Haacke). Vir ons lyk dit of daar nog ’n skakel ontbreek.
