Guesib

The current road to Rundu still follows the same route from Grootfontein. Guesib lies north-east of Grootfontein on the road, and on the farm Stryfontein on 1918 CA, spelled by Dr. Hartmann 'strikdfon- tein'. Guesib is the mountain on the farm, like O.A. Fed up from the -B, ML. Ekv., Index of river, and like here, from mountain names. We felt that there might be a mortgage between Guesib and Strijdfon- tin. The -si- is a normal locus buzz. Now there is indeed in Namaǃ Khoi = 'Laufen, Rennen' (Kr.- R. 1969 NW 245), with the right, but the meaning is too far, Seifs with the thought of a race. Rather explain with Namaǃ Gue - For the Dombeya Rotundifolia, the thick and drag, a shrub that is abundant here and with its white flowers introducing the spring season, cf. Wiss HJ 1975 Botanische Mitt 57. The 'Dikbasberg' ? On the head, the land surveyor is No. 76 (SWA Series 1978 1918 Ca Grootfontein, scale 1:50 000)

afr Die huidige pad na Rundu volg nog dieselfde roete van Grootfontein af. Guesib le daarop noordoostelik van Grootfontein aan die pad, en wel op die plaas Strydfontein op 1918 CA, deur dr Hartmann gespel 'Strijdfon- tein'. Guesib is die berg op die plaas, soos o.a. afgelêi kan word van die -b, ml. ekv., indeks van rivier-, en soos hier, van bergname. Ons het gemeen dat daar moontlik ’n verband kan wees tussen Guesib en Strijdfon- tein. Die -si- is ’n normale lokatiefsuffiks. Nou is daar inderdaad in Nama 'n ǃkhoi = 'laufen, rennen' (Kr.-R. 1969 NW 245), met die juiste slag, maar die betekenis is te ver, seifs met die gedagte aan ’n wedloop. Dan liewer te verklaar met Nama ǃgue- vir die Dombeya rotundifolia, die dikbas of drolpeer, 'n struik wat hier volop is en met sy wit blommetjies die lenteseisoen inlei, vgl. Wiss HJ 1975 Botanische Mitt 57. Die 'Dikbas- berg'? Op die kop staan die landmetersbaken nr 76 (SWA-reeks 1978 1918 CA Grootfontein, skaal 1:50 000)
