Hoba(-Ost), (-West)

The old farm, adjacent to Gute Hoffnung No. 14, was subdivided into Hoba ost No. 13 and Hoba-West No. 322, west of Grootfontein and in that district, north of the rail and highway of Otavi to Grootfontein. The translation with 'gift' correlates in sound well with Hoba as ago form of ho- = 'der Fund, the Gabe' (Kr.- R. 1969 NW 182). And also with the meaning. Linguistically beat the two well with each other: Hoba in Khoe khoen, and gift in Afrikaans. Yet, another fact must be shown: As said, Hoba-Ost Farm No. 13, it borders on farm No. 14 called 'Gute Hoffnung'. Geographic and Numerical Sergean Falling up. 'Hope' is in Nama Louba- [Lauba], which looks like a linguistic atmeinhore, and reminds the technique of the 'lost key'. In other words: it may be that Hoba- to him loose a parent formǃ (H) Ouba- in the meaning of '(good) hope'. We only mention this possibility that should not be looked over. Incidentally, the familiar meteorite is on the farm Hoba.
