Sprigade Moisel 1904 Warsk 'Grootfontein (Geibaub)', Dorp. Vedder 1928 Joernaal 4 25 'Grootfontein was probably received by the year 1883-1884 his African name of the Buren, which lived there for a few years, from there to the Kaokoveld and then in Angola. The name Grootfontein = Grossquell is the word translation of the name, which the Bushmanner from the tribe of the Saan, who lived there, gave the place. They called him Gei- ǀ OUS = big (Gei) Source (OUS). '

Vedder 1928 Joernaal 4 25 'Grootfontein erhielt wahrscheinlich um das Jahr 1883-1884 seinen afrikanischen Namen von den Buren, die einige Jahre dort wohnten, von da weiter ins Kaokoveld zogen und dann sich in Angola niederliessen. Der Name Grootfontein = Grossquell ist die wortliche Uebersetzung des Namens, den die Buschmanner vom Stamm der Saan, die dort wohnten, dem Ort gaben. Sie nannten ihn Gei-ǀous = grosse (gei) Quelle (ǀous).'

Oor die betekenis en vorm van die naam was daar geen onsekerheid nie, daarom net enkele aanhalings. Die uitgang was -b, soos by Sprigade-Moisel, of meestal -s, die fern, sing., wat gewoonlik die bronnaam signaleer, soos hier. Die inlandse naam het in onbruik geraak.
