Hoofraadslid luiperth verbind die eerste deel van die Khoekhoense naam met ╪khoa- = olifant, maar daarin wyk sy suigkonsoant af van die wat dr Hartmann gehoor het, en daarom is sy verklaring onder verdenking. Die Hereronaam beteken 'Platz der Knaben', op gesag van prof. Kohler 1958 in Afrikanischer Heimatka- lender 104. As ons hierdie verklaring wil toepas op die Khoekhoense naam, dan sal mens vanself dink aan ǀgoa-b = 'Junge' (Rust 1960 DNW 33), maar dan is dit weer ’n ander suigkonsonant as by Hartmann. Die verklaring ontwyk ons nog.
