Da es zudem in Namalande einen Ort tsu-mis (Tsumis) gibt, der vom bosen Wort, das dort gesprochen würde, seine Entstehung herleitet, wirkt die Erkliirung durchaus befriedigend. Nachforschungen haben ergeben, dass nicht Nama...dem Ort den Namen gab, sondern die Herero. Urspriinglich hiess er Osume. Damit bezeichnet man abergriinen Algenschlamm auf dem Wasser. Man erzahlte dann, dass dort, wo heute der Tagebau der Kupfermine sei, sich ein Vlei befunden habe, auf dessen Wasser dieser Schlamm sich befand. Aber das ist nicht richtig. Soviel ich herausbringen konnte, befand sich dort niemals ein Vlei, sondern ein Hügel, und dieser Hügel war sehr kupferhaltig. Er hatte ein grimes Aussehen. Sein grimes ungewdhnliches Aussehen erinnerte die Herero an das Aussehen von Algenschlamm, und so nahrnen sie den Algenschlamm (osume) zum Ausgang der Benennung. Aus dem Hererowort Osume aber machten spater die Namasprechenden nach den Regeln des Wortbaues ihrer Sprache Tsumeb, indem sie der Ortsbezeichnung das Suffix niasc. sing, -b anhingen und den Anlaut in ts verwandelten'.
