Awagugams

Located in the Kaokoveld Reserve, east of the Sesfontein Reserve. Here in the vicinity of Warmquelle many fountains gather in the valley, and on the mountain slopes thereof is Awagu-Gams. Foundation is ǀ Awa = red, according to Mr Krenz, or Awa = Kalbas, according to Messrs. Du Raan and Boois. The name does not occur at Dr Hartmann 1903-4, also not on other maps that the suction medicine. If Like at Krenz, then the -gu- (ml. ǀǀ Gam-S = Water) where there are calabashes (AWA-GU) growth '. FK Krenz 1979 complements the remark: 'But it can also do with people. If there was a clan (Bergdama) with that of Van ǀ Awab, then it is nothing rare to call the water to the ǀ Awagu as ǀ AWAGUJ ǀ GAMS. Like eg. Small Anabis also bears the name of ǀ Awa Ragu ǀǀ Gams, because two brothers javarab killed each other around a woman '

afr geleë in die Kaokoveldreservaat, oos van die Sesfontein-reservaat. Hier in die omgewing van Warmquelle le baie fonteine bymekaar in die laagte, en aan die berghange regs daarvan is Awagu-gams. Grondwoord is ǀawa = rooi, volgens mnr Krenz, of awa- = kalbas, volgens mnre. Du Raan en Boois. Die naam kom nie voor by dr Hartmann 1903-4 nie, ook nie op ander kaarte wat die suigmedeklinkers aangee nie. Indien soos by Krenz, dan is die -gu- (ml. mv.) die substantivering van ǀawa-b = rooi koppie, indien soos by Du Raan en Boois is dit ook mv., betekenende die 'Fon- tein/waterplek (ǀǀgam-s = water) waar daar kalbasse (awa-gu-) groei'. FK Krenz 1979 maak aanvullend hierby die Opmerking: 'Maar dit kan ook met persone te doen he. As daar ’n clan (Bergdama) met die van van ǀAwab gebly het, dan is dit niks seldsaams nie om die water na die ǀAwagu te noem as ǀ Awaguj ǀgams. Soos bv. Klein Anabis ook die naam van ǀAwa- raguǀǀgams dra, omdat twee broers jAwarab mekaar om 'n vroumens daar doodgesteek het'
