Yvette Abrahams

Yvette Abrahams holds a PhD in Economic History from the University of Cape Town. She has consulted for government and various NGO’s on issues relating to gender equality in policy and practice, while publishing widely both locally and internationally on gender equality, queer theory, climate change as well as the history of First Nations South Africans. She served as Commissioner For Gender Equality where she headed their programmes on poverty, energy and climate change. She subsequently worked as Advisor to Project 90 by 2030, an NGO which focuses on food security, energy, and promoting renewable energy and energy efficiency entrepreneurship in the context of climate change, She served as Commissioner on the University of Cape Town’s Institutional Reconciliation and Truth Commission. She runs a small business making organic carbon neutral soaps and body products on her smallholding east of Cape Town. Dr Abrahams is the current Interim Director of the San & Khoi Centre since 1 April 2022.

por Yvette Abrahams é doutorada em História Econômica pela Universidade da Cidade do Cabo. Ela consultou o governo e várias ONGs sobre questões relacionadas à igualdade de gênero na política e na prática, ao mesmo tempo em que publicou amplamente tanto local como internacionalmente sobre igualdade de gênero, teoria ‘queer’, mudanças climáticas, assim como a história dos sul-africanos das Primeiras Nações. Ela serviu como Comissária para a Igualdade de Gênero onde dirigiu seus programas sobre pobreza, energia e mudanças climáticas. Posteriormente, ela trabalhou como assessora do Projeto 90 até 2030, uma ONG que se concentra na segurança alimentar, energia e promoção de energia renovável e empreendedorismo em eficiência energética no contexto da mudança climática, ela serviu como Comissária da Comissão Institucional de Reconciliação e Verdade da Universidade da Cidade do Cabo. Ela dirige uma pequena empresa que fabrica sabonetes orgânicos neutros em carbono e produtos para o corpo em sua pequena propriedade no leste da Cidade do Cabo.

Dra. Abrahams é a atual Diretora Interina do Centro San & Khoi desde 1º de abril de 2022.
