Ouma Katrina relates her sister's reluctance to speak N|uu due to the oppression they experienced and that she too stopped speaking the language for a period of time. However, now that she is speaking N|uu again there is still a degree of loss as she does not remember all of the words she she used to know.

Ouma Katrina shares how N|uu was described as an ugly language by people outside and inside the San community. Her nickname of "Geelmeid" was also given to her as derogatory slur because of her being San.
