Label Information

"The print is based on an article in the South African Architectural Record (Jan 1957). The article addresses the ‘aesthetics’ of the colour coding or choice of colours for township houses during Apartheid. It is a bizarre application of colour theory (or abstraction) to the first townships that were built. The 4-colour silkscreen print is a copy from a photograph of a ‘limewashed’ township house. I photoshopped it and literally jacked it up. The etching is a drawing of a wooden hut that wants to be a township house, i.e. when plans go wrong." Dorothee Kreutzfeldt
