Description

Opened in 1974 and named after the late Anna Maria Tugwell nee Krige, Warden of the University's first women's residence at Groote Schuur, wife of the SAC Registrar. Krige, 1876-1966, was educated at the South African College and became a teacher. In 1913 she married A.D.R. Tugwell, Registrar of the South African College. The next year Mrs Tugwell became Head of the Arthur's Seat Women’s Hostel of the South African College, and from 1917-1928 she was head of the Hope Mills Women’s Hostel of the South African College and University of Cape Town. From 1928 to the end of 1934 she was Head of the New Women’s Residence on the Rondebosch campus which was later renamed Fuller
