Part of a series of 14 photographs exhibited in Oct 2006 in an exhibition titled "Amendment" held at the Photographers Gallery za,, Cape Town. Each work comprises three images. She explains how "the narrow central piece serves as binding agent between landscape and remnant". lLien Botha worked as a press photographer before studying Fine Art at UCT. She received the Standard Bank Young Artist Award in 1997 and has held numerous exhibitions both locally and abroad. Her work has been described as being difficult to interpret. "Her experimentation tends towards mysterious outcomes". Although reluctant to discuss her art she described herself as follows in an interview with Sean O'Toole"as an artist specialising in lens-based work" (2004) Landscape is a recurring subject. She is the youngest daughter of retired politian, Pik Botha. In the 1980s she photographed highveld dusks and continues to be compelled by the land. This recent body of work began while on an artist's residency in Pujols, France and gained momentum in New York during 2006 following a visit to a snowy Bronx Botnical Gardens. According to Sean O'Toole her images are "an oblique, almost surreal, comment on modern life". In her elusive manner she describes the final product as both"personal chronicle" and "visual poem…alluding to our circuit on the brink of a deranged paradise".
